Programs
The Bunk Bed Project ®

The Bunk Bed Project® serves some of the most vulnerable populations in Guatemala by providing bunk beds, elder beds, stoves, and pilas. El Amor staff and volunteers deliver bunk beds to children who have previously been using twigs, cinder blocks, wood pallets, or nothing at all for beds.  We provide secure standard sized beds with handrails for the Elder Bed Project.  Vented stoves are installed to replace dangerous open flame fires inside the homes and we provide pilas, large outdoor sinks, to be hooked up to potable water that El Amor has helped bring to each home in the village of Yalu.

  • Bunk bed, $250, which includes bed/mattresses, two comforters, two pillows, and delivery

  • Elder Bed, $250, which includes pillow and comforter

  • One set of sheets, $20

  • Two sets of sheets, $40

  • Water Filters, $70

  • Stove, $225

  • Pilas, $250

New Pila Project

In Yalú, like in many rural communities in Guatemala, a pila is an essential part of daily life. Traditionally, people have washed clothes, dishes, and even prepared food using makeshift water stations on the ground. This setup is not only uncomfortable but also inefficient and unhygienic.

A pila would significantly improve their quality of life. It provides a sturdy, elevated structure for washing, reducing strain on the back and knees. It also helps conserve water, keeping it clean and separate from dirt or contaminants. With a proper pila, families can work more efficiently, maintain better hygiene, and improve their overall well-being.
